Contrary to common descriptions, many of these workers are highly skilled. The surge in supply of global labor, combined with the increasing globalization of trade, has had predictable consequences on employment growth and wages in advanced industrialized countries. In this speech, I will discuss the implications for both companies in Italy and for Italy’s future economic prosperity. I will argue that competitiveness for both Italian companies and Italy will depend fundamentally on the development and retention of high quality human capital".
